Youngsta [UK]
![]()
If you’ve heard a Youngsta set you’ll know: he’s a master of the decks. Twisting, tweaking, scraping his 10′ dubplates into a sub-bass assault wave he treads the exhilarating line between implosion and explosion, dark and light, pleasure and pain. Youngsta began DJing at 12, appearing on London garage pirate Freek FM at 13. Now 20, by day he work s in seminal Soho record shop Blackmarket, before trekking back to his home in Essex. By night you can catch him on leading pirate Rinse FM, the station that’s home to Plasticman, Wiley and Roll Deep, and that broke Dizzee Rascal. On Rinse he’ll be deep in the mix, pulling off jaw-dropping mixes - but never, ever speaking on the mic. Youngsta has also released his mix-cd under ‘Dubstep Allstars’ - the definitive scene compilations, the series that actually gave the genre its name. It’s the mutant sound of dread dub basslines and dark jungle energy; funky reggae skanks and soaring Detroit melodies fused into a new hybrid.
Youngsta performs on Friday, 17th November in Von Krahl.
